We begin our history of the firm with the story of how Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace LLP (“RCCW”) arrived at its headquarter building in Albyn Place, Aberdeen, at the heart of the City’s professional services district.

The two firms who would merge in 2004 to become RCCW followed their own path to Albyn Place.

Clark and Wallace operated at various offices in the City Centre before the success and growth of the business prompted a move to larger premises, and the firm moved to 12 Albyn Place in 1965.

Raeburn Christie – initially trading as Christie Buthlay & Rutherford before the merger with A.J Raeburn in Ellon to form Raeburn Christie Buthlay and Rutherford – were also based in several offices in the City Centre, including in Union Terrace and Carden Place before a move to larger premises in the West End at 70 Queens Road. The continued growth of the firm following the merger with Raeburns required bigger premises closer to the City Centre and the firm relocated to 16 Albyn Place.

From that point, the two firms began operating next door to each other and a close relationship developed between them. The partners and staff of the respective firms knew each other from connections going back to school, through University and from practising law together in the close-knit legal community of Aberdeen. The relationship between the firms was always good, and on many occasions the firms would pass on business referrals or help out in conflict cases.

By 2004 Raeburns had become Raeburn Christie & Co and the decision was made by both firms to create the firm that exists today. While the fact that the two firms were next door to each other wasn’t the driver behind the merger, it made that merger much easier than it otherwise might have been.

From our main office in Albyn Place, RCCW now carry out a wide range of legal work in many fields including residential conveyancing, commercial property, private client work (Wills, Trusts and the winding-up of Estates), court work including family law, guardianships, commercial contract disputes and personal injury claims, and corporate and employment work – all to meet the needs of our commercial and individual clients. Our commercial clients currently include major national and international companies, including large energy companies, property developers, construction companies and financial institutions. We also act for many private individuals who rely on our help at all stages of their lives.
