Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Peterhead and still live there.

Where you did study/what’s your career background?

I went to school in Peterhead and then studied my LLB (Hons) and DPLP at the University of Aberdeen. I then did my traineeship with Masson Glennie LLP, in Peterhead. I worked at that firm, from 2006 until August 2021, developing my career to Partner level, before I moved to RCCW

Why did you apply to RCCW?

Having focused my legal practice on all aspects of Residential Conveyancing I wanted to continue my career in this area. I was excited by the prospect of working for a renowned North east firm that had established expertise in residential conveyancing. The opportunity to work at RCCW was too good to miss, and I have really enjoyed my role since joining the firm in 2021.

What department(s) do/have you worked across?

Whilst at Masson Glennie LLP I worked across a number of departments including Commercial, Corporate, Banking, Commercial Property, renewables, Liquor Licensing, but finally focused on Residential Property which is my legal specialism, and my focus here at RCCW.

How would you describe a typical day/your experience at RCCW to date?

The Ellon team have been extremely welcoming since day one. We work as a team not only in the branch but as the Residential Conveyancing department and as a firm. Despite being quite a large organisation there is a very friendly and personal atmosphere. I enjoying coming to work each morning and working with my colleagues and for my clients. The work is varied and interesting and immensely satisfying.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to pursue a career within a law firm?

Try not to enter the profession with preconceived ideas that you become a particular type of lawyer. You may have aspirations of doing a specific of work, but it is likely that you will discover a certain aspect of law that you love, despite thinking that you may not find that legal area interesting.  For example, I wanted to be a court solicitor when I started my career, however, I have since focused on residential conveyancing as my specialism, as it is an area I really enjoy and find both rewarding and challenging in equal measure.

What do you like most about working at RCCW?

The Teamwork aspect in Ellon. I feel we all work well as one unit and all get on with each other
